This week the Smart Cities Council Emerging Innovators (SCCei) had its Sydney Launch. Sponsored by Lendlease at their Barangaroo offices, it was an excellent event and just the start of more great things to come.
We are a young professionals group with a vision to connect and empower emerging innovators to deliver world class leadership for smart cities. Our purpose is to provide a platform for emerging innovators in smart cities to meet, share, learn and promote how technology can be used to make the environment more liveable.
SCCei will allow members to meet and share ideas through online platforms, and in person, with the event this week kicking off a program of monthly meetups including networking drinks, attendance at lectures and study tours.
The group presents a genuine opportunity for members to learn from each other across interdisciplinary and public/private sector silos. The small group of approximately 16 founding members already contains planners, architects, academics, engineers, business people and economists. We work in state and local governments, the development industry, several national and international consulting firms, the finance industry, on our own start-ups and universities. SCCei will also facilitate opportunities to learn through senior figures in the industry and the wider Smart Cities Council partner base.
SCCei will share through regular articles in the SCCANZ newsletter and online and regular content through our social media. Connect with us on Twitter or Instagram (@SCC_Innovators). In addition, founding member Zoe Eather has just launched The Smart City Podcast. With an ambitious schedule of three new episodes a week over the new few months she has been interviewing a large number of smart cities leaders and emerging innovators from around Australia and the world. Be sure to check it out!
Finally, we have got together because we are a group of people who know that through technology and data, we can do cities better. Our members have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we are impatient to start. The group will be a strong voice in discussions to promote smart cities through the content we generate, involvement in wider SCC taskforces and by providing a unique contribution to Smart Cities Week to be held in Sydney later this year.
Now we have launched, we are looking for your support to grow our membership base. If you know of, or think you are an emerging innovator, get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org or by filling in an expression of interest form here.
The group is also seeking the support of established members in the industry for mentoring, sponsorship and support at future events. By getting involved you will be able to:
- Take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with and support young professionals to shape Australia’s Smart Cities Landscape.
- Build your reputation as a future-focused organisation, valuing a diversity of voices in building the Smart Cities Agenda.
- Leverage the global network the SCCei is planning to build.
- Connect with other organisations working with SCCei and the broader SCCANZ community
- Tap into a multidisciplinary network of ambitious and innovative young professionals.
We are deeply appreciative of the show of support from the large number of senior industry figures who came out to the Sydney launch and who have promised to help get the word out there. Thank you again to Scott Taylor and the team at Lendlease for hosting the event. This Sydney launch is just the start of several events to come. Similar launch events will be held around Australia and New Zealand, with a Brisbane event scheduled for march and a Wellington event in the works for April.
So, in summary, greetings from your SCC Emerging Innovators! We look forward to working with you soon.
